Gameweek 9 Waiver Wire: Roles, Streams and One Trap

James Hill is the best Gameweek 9 waiver claim: he has played every league minute, remains rostered in only 25.9 per cent of completed private Draft Fantasy leagues and now starts a favourable three-match run. Julio Enciso and Oscar Bobb are the midfield claims with established roles. Oli McBurnie and Antonín Kinský solve shorter-term lineup problems, while Mathys Tel is the Gameweek 8 scorer not to overpay for yet.
This is advice for Premier League draft leagues, where every player has one owner. Roster rate estimates availability across completed private leagues; it does not guarantee that a player is free in yours. Check the transfer market in your Draft Fantasy Premier League league before ordering claims.
The board uses Draft Fantasy regular scoring, which matches official FPL scoring. Custom-scoring leagues calculate points from commissioner-defined values, so rewards for defensive work, chances created or other actions can change the order.

Hill and Enciso pass all three tests
A useful claim this week should pass three checks: an established role, a realistic chance of being free and more than one playable fixture. Hill and Enciso are the only two players on this board who clear all three cleanly.
Hill has completed all 720 minutes. His 11 Gameweek 8 points will attract attention, but 92 defensive contributions across eight starts are the repeatable evidence beneath the return. Bournemouth's next three fixtures carry ratings of two, two and one. That is why he leads the queue at a 25.9 per cent roster rate—not because one clean sheet promises another.
Enciso has also started every match. He has played 645 minutes and generated 3.30 expected goal involvements from 1.64 xG plus 1.66 xA. His Gameweek 8 goal lifted him to ten points, yet the stronger claim is the combination of eight starts, 11.2 per cent rostered and three consecutive difficulty-two fixtures.
Bobb is a role claim, not a schedule claim
Bobb's 11-point return came in his eighth start, so this is not the same gamble as chasing a new name after one lineup appearance. He has 2.86 expected goal involvements in 575 minutes and is rostered in only 8.4 per cent of completed private leagues.
The fixture run sets the price ceiling. Aston Villa away is rated three and Newcastle at home two, but Manchester City away rises to five in Gameweek 11. Claim Bobb when you need a playable fifth midfielder for the next two rounds. Keep Hill and Enciso above him when all three would fill the same weekly lineup need.
McBurnie and Kinský are streams, not season bets
McBurnie has started all eight matches and produced 0.80 expected goal involvements in his 85-minute Gameweek 8 appearance. Hull now host Ipswich in a difficulty-one fixture. The next two ratings jump to five and four, so pay for one scarce forward start rather than treating his latest eight points as a breakout.
Kinský offers a different short-term solution. He has played every minute, scored 32 points and is rostered in 24.0 per cent of completed private leagues. Spurs receive difficulty-one home fixtures in Gamesweeks 9 and 11, split by a difficulty-three trip to Leeds. That is a useful goalkeeper rotation, but not a reason to drop a clearly stronger set-and-forget option.

Do not pay breakout money for Tel yet
Tel played 88 minutes and scored 11 points in Gameweek 8 after recording only three minutes across Gamesweeks 5–7. The new start matters, and Spurs' ratings of one, three and one make him worth a fallback request. It does not erase the thin recent role sample.
A zero-to-two per cent bid preserves the upside without pricing one selection as permanent. If reliable team news confirms another start before the deadline, move him behind Bobb. Otherwise, managers who need an immediate starter should prefer the eight-start midfielders.
The draft-league injury hold-or-drop guide applies the same replacement-cost test before you release an established player for a new role.
What last week's results changed
The final Gameweek 8 data supports the role process but rejects the points call. Five of the six recommendations in the Gameweek 8 waiver guide reached 60 minutes; Emersonn stopped at 59. The top three claims—Pedro Neto, Keane Lewis-Potter and Jack Rudoni—scored seven combined points against the predicted threshold of 12. That condition failed.
Gameweek 7 is now final too. All six recommendations reached 60 minutes, while Dominic Solanke and Maxim De Cuyper scored ten combined against an eight-point threshold. Both conditions passed. The older trade example also finished exactly on its forecast: Igor Thiago and Kai Havertz combined for five 60-minute appearances and 18 points across Gamesweeks 6–8, clearing the four-appearance condition and meeting the points condition.
Those mixed results are why this board separates role-backed claims, deliberate streams and Tel's one-start gamble instead of sorting by Gameweek 8 points.
Submit the queue in this order
- Fix the weakest position. Hill leads at defender; Enciso at midfield; McBurnie only when a forward start is the immediate need.
- Choose the time horizon. Bobb is playable for two rounds; McBurnie is a one-week stream; Kinský rotates across three.
- Attach a fallback. Tel belongs behind established midfield roles until a second consecutive start is credible.
- Name the outgoing player. A successful Draft Fantasy claim must leave a valid unique-player squad.
- Recheck the clock and status. The verified Gameweek 9 deadline is 11:00 UTC on Saturday 31 October; the 27 October availability snapshot is not deadline-day team news.
Official competition data marked Gameweek 8 finished and data checked and Gameweek 9 next when this evidence was captured on 27 October. All ten Gameweek 9 fixtures were unstarted. Points, minutes, starts, expected returns, defensive contributions and availability came from official FPL data and player histories. Roster rates came from Draft Fantasy's fresh epl26 dataset. Each displayed rating was joined to the current official fixture by ID and venue using Draft Fantasy's current difficulty model.
