Gameweek 4 Waiver Wire: Six Claims and Two Overbid Traps
Marcus Tavernier is the best Gameweek 4 waiver claim. Thierno Barry remains the forward to prioritize if he is still free, while Jayden Bogle and Tyrick Mitchell offer favourable defender fixtures at very different levels of risk. Alex Scott is the steadier midfield add; Tyrique George is the low-cost upside play.

The percentages are editorial ranges from your remaining FAAB, not fixed player prices. Spend near the top only when the player improves your starting lineup. In rolling or weekly-reset leagues, use the same order but price the move in waiver priority instead of budget.

Tavernier has both points and process
Tavernier has started all three matches, played 268 of 270 minutes and scored 21 points. His two goals came with 1.50 expected goals, while 0.34 expected assists provides a second route to returns. He also recorded 28 defensive contributions across the three rounds.
Neither Bournemouth fixture is rated easy, so this is a bet on a secure, involved midfielder rather than a schedule chase. Use the higher end of the range only when Tavernier replaces a weak weekly starter.
Barry is still the forward to buy
Barry scored only two points in Gameweek 3, but the underlying case strengthened. Three starts have produced 2.31 expected goals and 0.11 expected assists in 237 minutes. His 12 points trail that 2.42 expected-goal-involvement total, and Everton now receive two difficulty-one fixtures.
He was already a Gameweek 2 waiver recommendation, so managers who added him should hold. If he remains available at a 45.9% roster rate, forward scarcity justifies another strong claim instead of chasing a new name with fewer minutes.
Bogle and Mitchell need different bid limits
Bogle's 14-point Gameweek 3 included a goal backed by 0.90 expected goals, and Leeds' next two fixtures are rated two and one. A 6.3% roster rate makes him the most obtainable high-priority defender.
The risk is playing time. Bogle's minutes have fallen from 90 to 67 to 60, so do not price him like an unquestioned 90-minute defender. Keep the bid below Tavernier and Barry unless defender is your clear weakness.
Mitchell also produced an explosive Gameweek 3: two goals and 15 points in 73 minutes. Two goals from 0.66 expected goals should not become a new weekly expectation. His three starts, 253 total minutes and the Ipswich-Leeds fixture pair still make him useful, but the lower FAAB range protects against paying for the score that already happened.
Scott is the floor; George is the fixture punt
Scott has played at least 86 minutes in every match. His two Gameweek 3 assists came from only 0.02 expected assists, so that exact route is unlikely to repeat, but 37 defensive contributions across three rounds show continued involvement even when the final pass disappears. Prefer him when the squad needs a fifth midfielder who can start regularly.
George is the deeper-league alternative. He reached 90 minutes for the first time in Gameweek 3 and scored, but that goal came from 0.04 expected goals. The reason to make a small claim is the 3.8% roster rate and two difficulty-one fixtures—not confidence that ten points will repeat.
Do not overbid for every Gameweek 3 return
Enzo Le Fée's eight points, three starts and 1.44 expected goal involvements are encouraging. Sunderland's next two fixtures are both rated five, however, so he is a watchlist player or minimal bid rather than a priority claim for an immediate starter.
Josh King has an even stronger 270-minute role, 19 points and 1.29 expected goal involvements. Liverpool away and Manchester United at home are both rated four. Add him cheaply if you can hold through the run; do not move him above the six players in the table for one Gameweek 4 lineup decision.
What last week's waiver call got right—and wrong
The Gameweek 3 waiver board predicted that at least four of six picks would reach 60 minutes and that Elanga, Hall and Groß would combine for at least 12 points. The role test passed exactly: Elanga played 76 minutes, Hall 89, Groß 90 and Dedić 90, while Nketiah played 45 and Ndoye 58.
The points call failed. Elanga, Hall and Groß scored only six combined. That miss is why this week's board separates repeatable minutes and expected involvement from a single return, and why Nketiah drops below Barry after his playing time fell again.
Submit a complete claim queue
- Start with the position you need. Tavernier should lead for midfield help; Barry for a forward; Bogle for a defender.
- Use same-position fallbacks. Scott and George can sit behind Tavernier, while Mitchell can follow Bogle.
- Choose the outgoing player now. A successful waiver normally needs a valid one-for-one squad move.

- Check your league clock. Gameweek 4's verified match deadline is Saturday 12 September at 12:30 UTC, but your waiver process can run earlier.
