Fantasy Premier League Scoring System 2026/27: How Points Work
Fantasy Premier League points come from what each player does in a real Premier League match. Goals, assists, clean sheets, saves and defensive contributions earn points, while cards, own goals and some conceded goals lose them.
The table below gives the full 2026/27 scoring summary. The position columns matter because the same action can be worth a different amount for a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder or forward.

The Premier League's official scoring guide is the primary source for these values. Draft Fantasy is an independent game, not a Premier League product. The default scoring for Draft Fantasy's Premier League leagues uses the same values in this table, while letting league creators customise how individual actions are rewarded.
How goals and assists score points
Goal points depend on position:
- goalkeepers receive 10 points;
- defenders receive six;
- midfielders receive five; and
- forwards receive four.
Every assist is worth three points, regardless of position. An assist can come from the final pass or touch before a goal, a rebound from a saved or blocked shot, or winning a penalty or free-kick that a team-mate scores directly. The set-piece taker does not also receive an assist for winning the foul when they score it themselves.
This position weighting is why a defender with attacking threat can be so valuable. A defender's goal is worth more than a forward's, and the defender can add clean-sheet points in the same match.
How clean-sheet and goalkeeper points work
A goalkeeper or defender must play at least 60 minutes to qualify for four clean-sheet points. A midfielder who reaches 60 minutes receives one clean-sheet point, while a forward receives none.
If an eligible player is substituted before their team concedes, they keep the clean-sheet points. A goalkeeper or defender also loses one point for every two goals conceded while they are on the pitch.
Goalkeepers have two additional scoring routes:
- one point for every three saves; and
- five points for saving a penalty.
Save points accumulate in complete groups of three. Eight saves are worth two points; the third point arrives at nine saves.
How defensive contribution points work
Defensive contributions give outfield players another way to score in 2026/27:
- a defender earns two points after reaching 10 combined clearances, blocks, interceptions and tackles (CBIT) in one match;
- a midfielder or forward earns two points after reaching 12 combined clearances, blocks, interceptions, tackles and ball recoveries (CBIRT).
The award is capped at two points per match. Reaching double the threshold does not produce four points.

How FPL bonus points work
After each match, the three best performers in the Bonus Points System receive extra fantasy points:
- first place receives three points;
- second place receives two; and
- third place receives one.
The BPS calculation uses match actions such as goals, assists, clean sheets, passing, saves and defensive work. Negative actions can reduce a player's BPS score. Ties can result in more than three players receiving bonus points.
Bonus is separate from the points already earned for goals, assists and other actions. A midfielder who scores a goal and finishes first in BPS can receive five goal points plus three bonus points.
Can a fantasy player score negative points?
Yes. A player can finish a match below zero through deductions for cards, own goals, missed penalties or goals conceded.
For example, a defender who plays 90 minutes, concedes four goals and receives a yellow card scores:
- two appearance points;
- minus two for the four goals conceded; and
- minus one for the yellow card.
That produces a total of -1 point before any goals, assists, saves, defensive contributions or bonus points are added.

Draft Fantasy's default Premier League settings follow the headline 2026/27 scoring values above, including goalkeeper goals and defensive contributions. The difference is control: a Draft Fantasy league creator can edit the scoring by position.
A league can change the value of goals, assists, clean sheets, cards, saves and defensive contributions. It can also reward detailed actions such as key passes, tackles, interceptions, clearances, shots, aerial duels or expected goals. A goalkeeper goal is worth 10 points, a defender goal six, a midfielder goal five and a forward goal four.
How many points is an assist?
Every assist is worth three points, regardless of the player's position.
How many minutes does a player need for a clean sheet?
A goalkeeper, defender or midfielder must play at least 60 minutes to receive clean-sheet points. Goalkeepers and defenders receive four points; midfielders receive one.
Do substitutes get appearance points?
A player receives one appearance point for playing fewer than 60 minutes and two for playing at least 60 minutes. An unused substitute receives no points.
Are defensive contributions part of FPL in 2026/27?
Yes. Defenders receive two points at 10 qualifying actions. Midfielders and forwards receive two at 12 qualifying actions, with ball recoveries included for those two positions.
